Syrups move fast in winter, during monsoon fevers and wherever paediatric and general practice is strong. They also bring problems that tablets never do: heavy cartons, broken bottles, leaking caps and higher freight. A good syrup range makes money only when these practical issues are handled well.
The companies listed above include syrups and other oral liquids in their franchise ranges. Look at their product lists, then use this page to check the things that matter for liquids specifically.
What sells in an oral liquid range
Most syrup ranges cover the same core groups. The mix you choose should follow the doctors and chemists in your area.
- Cough and cold: dry cough syrups, expectorants and antiallergic combinations. Strongly seasonal, with peak sales from October to February.
- Digestive and liver: enzyme syrups and liver tonics, popular with general practitioners and in rural markets.
- Tonics: multivitamin, iron and appetite syrups. Steady sellers through the year, often bought by chemists on their own recommendation.
- Antacids: technically most are suspensions, but chemists stock them next to syrups and they sell in big volumes.
- Paediatric: paracetamol, antiallergic and multivitamin drops and syrups, where flavour and pack size decide repeat sales.
Keep cough products to a sensible share of your first order. If you load up in September and the season is mild, you are left with stock that will not move until next winter.
Bottle size, PET or glass, and sugar-free options
Common pack sizes are 60 ml, 100 ml, 200 ml and 450 ml. Paediatric products sell in 60 ml and 100 ml. Tonics and digestive syrups do better in 200 ml and larger packs, where the patient sees value for money.
PET bottles, usually amber, are lighter and rarely break, so freight costs less and fewer bottles come back damaged. Glass bottles are still used for some formulations and some buyers feel they look more premium, but they are heavier and break in transport. For most franchise partners, especially those supplying to far off towns, a PET syrup franchise is the more practical choice.
Sugar-free syrups are worth asking about. Doctors prefer them for diabetic patients and many consultants write them for adults anyway. A cough or tonic range with sugar-free versions gives your MR a clear talking point with physicians and diabetologists.
Transport, shelf life and margins
Leakage, breakage and shelf life
Ask the company how the bottles are sealed. An induction seal under the cap stops most leakage. Bottles should be packed in individual cartons and then in a strong shipper box with partitions. One leaking bottle can stain a whole carton and make the rest unsaleable.
Check the breakage and leakage return policy before you sign. Some companies replace damaged bottles if you report within a few days with photos; others do not. Get this in writing.
Most syrups carry a shelf life of around two years from manufacture, but liquids can lose quality faster if kept in heat or direct sun. Ask for fresh stock on every dispatch, and do not accept lots that have already used up a big part of their shelf life.
Freight and margins
Liquids are heavy. On a syrup franchise, freight can eat a noticeable part of your margin, more so if you are far from the plant. Ask whether the rate is ex-factory or delivered, and who pays the transport. Compare the PTR, PTS and MRP of each syrup against local market leaders, and work out your margin after freight, not before.
Check the minimum first order, monopoly area and promotional inputs too. Product cards and samples for paediatric syrups help a lot with child specialists.
Send your syrup requirement
Use the free requirement form on this page to get offers without calling around. Write which syrups you need (for example, "cough, digestive and multivitamin syrups, PET bottles, sugar-free options"), your district, your expected first order value and when you want delivery. Your number is not published. The requirement goes only to companies that offer a syrup franchise in your range and area, and they call you back.
