Chemists often call every bottle of oral liquid a syrup, but suspensions are a different product with their own handling needs. In a franchise range they cover antacids, paediatric antibiotics, fever products and several gastro medicines that doctors write daily.
The companies on this page offer suspensions in their PCD ranges. Before you pick one, it helps to understand what you are actually selling and what can go wrong with it.
Suspension, syrup and dry syrup
A syrup is a solution. The medicine is dissolved, so the liquid is clear and stays uniform.
A suspension holds fine solid particles that do not dissolve. They settle over time, which is why the label says shake well before use. Antacids, sucralfate and many paediatric fever and antibiotic products are made this way because the drug does not dissolve well or tastes better in this form.
A dry syrup (or powder for oral suspension) is supplied as dry powder in a bottle. The pharmacist or parent adds water up to a mark before use. This form is used for antibiotics like amoxicillin, cefixime, cefpodoxime and azithromycin, which do not stay stable for long once mixed with water. On the shelf, dry syrups last longer than ready made suspensions of the same drug.
What sells in a suspension range
- Antacid suspensions: aluminium and magnesium hydroxide with simethicone, often in mint or other flavours. High volume, chemist driven, price sensitive.
- Paediatric antibiotics: ready suspensions and dry syrups written by child specialists and general practitioners. Flavour and pack size matter as much as the molecule.
- Fever and pain: paracetamol and ibuprofen suspensions, which sell all year and spike in viral seasons.
- Gastro: sucralfate, ondansetron and similar products for adults and children.
For paediatric products, dosing by weight is the doctor's decision. Your job is to make sure the pack has a clear measuring cup or dropper and the flavour is one children will accept. Mothers do not come back for a medicine the child spits out.
Quality, handling and terms
Shake-well quality
A good suspension settles slowly and mixes back easily with a few shakes. A poor one forms a hard cake at the bottom that does not redisperse, so the patient gets an uneven dose. This is the most common quality complaint with suspensions.
Before you place a big order, ask for a few sample bottles. Leave one undisturbed for a week, then shake it. If it mixes evenly, the formulation is sound. Also ask for the batch COA and whether the company has stability data for the product.
Store suspensions away from heat. High temperature can thicken or separate some products and spoil the taste.
Reconstitution and what to tell chemists
Dry syrups need correct reconstitution. The bottle should have a clear fill line, and the label should state how much boiled and cooled water to add. After mixing, most antibiotic suspensions have to be used within a short period, often about a week, and some need refrigeration. The exact period is printed on the label.
Brief your chemists on this. When they explain it to parents, there are fewer complaints that the medicine "did not work" because an old reconstituted bottle was used. For a suspension franchise with a strong paediatric line, this small effort keeps doctors confident in your brand.
Terms worth comparing
When you evaluate a suspension franchise, compare PTR, PTS and MRP for each suspension and dry syrup, keeping in mind that antacids compete on price while antibiotics compete on doctor trust. Check the minimum first order, monopoly area, dispatch time and whether leaking or caked bottles are replaced. Ask what samples and product cards are given for paediatricians.
Post your requirement for suspensions
Fill the free requirement form on this page with the suspensions and dry syrups you want (for example, "antacid suspension, paediatric antibiotic dry syrups, paracetamol suspension"), your district, the first order value you have in mind and your start date. Your number is not published. Only companies that run a suspension franchise for your range and area receive it, and they call you with rates and terms.
