Sachets are small, cheap to ship and easy for patients to use. ORS, probiotic powders, vitamin D3 granules, fibre and protein supplements all come in this form. For a franchise partner, sachets can add steady sales to a range, but they also bring one question that tablets do not: is this product a drug or a food supplement?
The companies listed above offer a sachet franchise as part of their PCD ranges. Use their product lists to see what is available, and read the points below before you choose.
Common sachet and powder products
- ORS and electrolytes: oral rehydration salts for diarrhoea and dehydration, sold heavily in summer and during monsoon.
- Probiotics: powders with lactic acid bacteria or Saccharomyces, written by paediatricians and gastro doctors, often alongside antibiotics.
- Fibre: isabgol and other fibre powders for constipation, a regular chemist item.
- Protein powders: sold in sachets for trial and in tins for regular use, popular with gynaecologists and physicians for patients who eat poorly.
- Vitamin D3 granules: high dose cholecalciferol sachets, widely prescribed by orthopaedic doctors and physicians.
Drug or FSSAI supplement: know which is which
This matters for your licences, your margins and what your MR is allowed to say. Products like ORS made to the drug formula and vitamin D3 granules are usually registered as drugs, made under a drug manufacturing licence and sold against a wholesale drug licence.
Many probiotic powders, protein powders and electrolyte energy drinks, on the other hand, are sold under FSSAI as health supplements or nutraceuticals. Their labels carry an FSSAI licence number, and their claims are restricted. You cannot promote them as treating a disease. Some fibre products are sold as drugs, some as Ayurvedic medicines and some as supplements, depending on the formulation.
Check the label and licence details of every sachet in the range. Mixing drugs and supplements in one franchise is common and allowed, but your billing, storage and promotion should treat each correctly. If the company cannot tell you clearly which product falls under which law, that is a warning sign.
Packing, margins and terms
Laminate packing and moisture
Most sachet powders absorb moisture. ORS, probiotics and fibre powders clump or lose quality if air gets in. The sachet material does all the protecting here.
Good sachets use a multi layer laminate with an aluminium foil layer, sealed on all sides. Plain plastic or paper laminates are cheaper but let moisture in over time. When you get samples, press a few sachets to check the seal, and open one to see that the powder flows freely. Probiotic sachets in particular need good protection, because the live culture count drops with heat and moisture. Ask the company what count is assured till expiry and how they suggest storing the product.
Sachets are usually packed in cartons of ten, twenty or thirty. Check that the carton is strong enough, because crushed cartons and torn sachets are hard to sell.
Margins and terms
In a sachet franchise the unit price is low, so margin per piece is small. They make money through volume and repeat buying. Compare the PTR, PTS and MRP per carton across companies, and look at seasonal demand: ORS peaks in summer, protein and vitamin D sell evenly through the year.
Ask about the minimum first order, monopoly area, dispatch time, expiry return policy and whether sampling packs are given. Product cards that clearly state the content per sachet help your MR with doctors. For a sachet franchise, also confirm the shelf life on the stock you receive, since powders with live cultures often have shorter dating.
Send your requirement for sachets
Use the free requirement form on this page. Mention the products you want (for example, "ORS, probiotic sachets and vitamin D3 granules"), say whether you also want FSSAI supplements, and add your district, expected first order value and start date. Your number is not published. Only companies offering sachets in your range and area get the requirement, and they call you back with rates.
