Ayurvedic products look simple from outside, but the category has more variety than most allopathic lists. Syrups, churna, vati, oils, capsules and classical preparations each sell differently, to different people. The mix you choose decides whether your stock moves or sits.

The companies listed above offer Ayurvedic ranges on franchise, and some also make them for other brands on a third party basis. Filter by state and city, open profiles and read the actual product list, not just the company name.

Classical medicines and proprietary formulations

Ayurvedic medicines fall into two groups under the law. Classical formulations are made as per the authoritative books recognised under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act: Ashwagandharishta, Triphala churna, Chyawanprash, Mahanarayan tail, Arogyavardhini vati and so on. Ayurveda doctors know them by name. Many companies make them, so price and quality are what you compete on.

Proprietary Ayurvedic medicines are the company's own combinations sold under a brand: a liver syrup, a pain oil, a cough syrup, an immunity capsule. They give better margins and something new to talk about, but they need more promotion because nobody knows the brand yet. A good franchise range carries both. Classical items for credibility and daily sale, proprietary items for margin.

What sells, form by form, and who buys it

  • Syrups such as liver tonics, cough syrups, digestive syrups and women's health tonics. Highest volume, through BAMS doctors and chemist counters.
  • Churna and powders. Steady sale through Ayurveda clinics and Panchakarma centres. Taste and packaging matter.
  • Vati and tablets. Easy to prescribe and easy for patients to carry, so they suit long-term use for joints, digestion and similar complaints.
  • Oils for pain and hair. Strong counter sale, often bought without a prescription.
  • Capsules, usually herbal extracts. They appeal to MBBS doctors who will never write a churna.

Your main prescribers are BAMS doctors, many of whom run general clinics in towns and villages, along with Ayurveda clinics and wellness centres. Chemists matter more here than in allopathic business, because a good share of the sale happens across the counter.

Before you order, check how Ayurvedic products from each company hold up on the shelf. Syrups can ferment or settle when the packing is weak, and churna picks up moisture in a humid godown. Ask for the shelf life of each item, look at bottle and cap quality on the samples, and ask what the company does when a batch comes back with complaints. Demand is seasonal too: cough syrups and immunity items sell harder in winter, digestive and cooling products in summer.

Licensing, labels and what you can claim

The manufacturing plant needs an Ayurvedic manufacturing licence on Form 25-D from the state licensing authority. Ask the company for a copy and check that the products you are buying are endorsed on it. Ask too whether the plant follows the GMP requirements of Schedule T.

On the selling side, rules differ from state to state. Some states do not ask for a separate licence to sell Ayurvedic medicines, others have their own requirements. Check with your state AYUSH or drug control office before you start, and get GST registration either way.

Labels must show ingredients with quantities, the reference book for classical items, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates and the licence number. Be careful with claims. Words like "treat" or "permanent relief", or any claim for diseases covered by the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, are not allowed and put both you and the manufacturer at risk. Visual aids should talk about ingredients and traditional use, not promise results.

Get offers for your Ayurvedic range

Write your requirement in the form on this page: the forms you want (syrups, churna, oils and so on), whether you want classical, proprietary or both, your district, the doctors you will cover, expected first order and when you want to begin. It is free, your number is not published, and only companies with Ayurvedic products matching your range and area receive it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a drug licence to sell Ayurvedic medicines?
It depends on your state. Some states do not ask for a separate sale licence for Ayurvedic medicines, while others have their own rules. Confirm with your state AYUSH or drug control office and keep GST registration in place.
What is the difference between classical and proprietary Ayurvedic medicines?
Classical medicines are made exactly as described in the recognised Ayurvedic texts and are sold under their traditional names. Proprietary medicines are a company's own herbal combinations sold under a brand name. Classical items build trust with Ayurveda doctors, proprietary items usually carry better margins.
Which doctors prescribe an Ayurvedic franchise range?
Mainly BAMS doctors, Ayurveda clinics and wellness centres. Some MBBS doctors and GPs prescribe herbal syrups and capsules for liver, cough or digestion. A good part of the sale also comes from chemists recommending products at the counter.
Can I get Ayurvedic products made under my own brand?
Yes. A plant holding a Form 25-D licence can make them for you on a third party or loan licence basis. You will need a brand name check, approved artwork and the batch quantities the plant works with. The label must still show the actual manufacturer's name and licence number.
